Pregnancy Week 20 - Is it a Boy or a Girl?
Posted on August 8, 2008 by Jared
Kennye and I went for our Week 20 ultrasound yesterday. This was just another routine ultrasound checkup except that we were far enough along to see the gender of the baby.
I think it will be fun to look back on this day, so I’m going to fluff up the exciting news with a few details.
Before we went to the doctor’s office, though, we decided to stop by The Puffy Muffin that’s just down the street. We’ve started to make a habit of stopping by there either before or after our appointments for breakfast or a early lunch. The food there is really good (the coffee is amazing too) and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s passing through the Brentwood area. This time I had a sirloin burger that was something to be marveled. Kennye had plenty of lemonade to get the kid kicking and squirming during the ultrasound.
After our quick lunch we went on down to the doctor’s office. We had only been sitting in the waiting room for a few minutes when a nurse called Kennye back. She made me stay in the waiting room a while longer, which confused me a bit (I had always gone back with her immediately). So I waited a few minutes longer, wondering just what in the world they would be doing. Turns out just a lot of measurements and they probably didn’t want me looking over the tech’s shoulder. If we happened to not want to know the gender, I may accidentally see something I shouldn’t!
Finally, they called me back to the ultrasound room. Kennye was already laying on the table with lots of goo on her belly. The ultrasound tech began to show us around: we saw a facial profile, little arms, hands and fingers, legs, feet and toes. It was when she began to show us around the legs and rear end that I noticed something was… different!
Yes, folks, it looks like we’re going to have a little baby girl and we couldn’t be more excited!
After we made some phone calls to our anxious parents, we drove back to Murfreesboro. I had a pink shirt to buy (Bryan has started a new baby announcement tradition at THA) and we had many more people to call, text message, and email. If you’re reading this and feel left out, my apologies.
Later that evening, Heather showed up at the front door with a box of pink thumbprint cookies (thanks again, by the way), a “Congrats! It’s a girl!” present, and a little girl of her own in her arms. We visited for a while and showed off our new ultrasound images. We had a video made of the ultrasound that was recorded onto a VHS tape. Since we don’t have a VCR anymore, we’re having it transferred onto a DVD. If everything works out, I’ll either make some copies of the DVD or possible post the video here.
I intended to have some of the photos on this post, but I haven’t had time to scan them yet. When I do, I’ll edit this post and add them.
