House Construction Summary - Part 1

Posted on May 27, 2008 by Jared

Since I’ve redesigned the site and included a management system for my posts, I realized that I need to move some of the more popular posts over into this new format. Ordinarily I’d feel inconvenienced, but now I get to play with some of the new features.

This page follows the building process from late July (when we were picking out a suitable lot) through late September. You’ll see everything from overgrown grass and trees to a fully framed house. I hope to post the next two parts back to back so that you can find them easily.

The lot before construction - 7-24-06

Not much to see here. Just a lot of trees and weeds. Fortunately, our builder worked with us and kept as many of the trees as possible.

The Lot has been cleared - 9-6-06

We can finally see the lot! All the trees and brush were pushed down and piled up in the middle. From there it was a simple matter of waiting for a suitable day for burning them down.

Footer Poured - 9-8-06

The footer was poured yesterday. Now we can start to see how the house is going to be positioned on the lot.

We Have Walls! - 9-17-06

Wow. I knew the framing would go quick…but we weren’t expecting any framing to be done until next week. We left for Vegas last Tuesday (Sept. 12) and got back home on Saturday. During that time the foundation block and sub-floor was installed and most of the first story was framed. Too bad I wasn’t able to take any pictures during that time.

Framing Continues - 9-20-06

Framing on the first floor is mostly done. Now the second floor is starting to take shape. You can see that the front wall of the bonus room has been raised along with a couple of the bedrooms. There aren’t any stairs yet (and no one left a ladder behind) so we aren’t about to get upstairs to take a look around. Another week or so and the construction crew will likely have the house completely framed. Pretty soon we’ll have all of the windows and doors installed as well.

Framing Nearly Complete / Plumbing Started - 9-30-06

Well, I said that in a week or so the house would be nearly completely framed. Looks like I was right! You’ll notice that all the windows and doors are in, as well as some plumbing. Now when you walk inside, you feel like you’re actually in a house.

That’s all for Part 1. If you want to see more, check out Part 2 and Part 3!
