House Construction Summary - Part 2
Posted on May 27, 2008 by Jared
This is part two of a three-part summary of the posts I made while we built our new house. As I mentioned in Part 1, I’m doing this because I have updated my site and I just couldn’t do away with all the work I did when I originally posted all of this.
This second part covers all the things that went on between the first week of October through early November. You’ll see everything from bricking to trimming and hardwood floors. Kennye and my mom also make special appearances.
Bricking Begins - 10-7-06
The brickers have started their work on the house. I expect that they’ll be done in no time… probably within a few days. The electrician and cable guy ran wires this week too. You can see a beautiful bundle of Cat 6 cables in one of the pictures. Have I mentioned that the whole house is going to be networked?
Bricking Complete, Insulation Installed - 10-11-06
All of the bricking is done, as well as the finishing touches on the roof. The insulations guys showed up in the middle of the week and knocked their work out in just a couple of days. You can also see that some drywall has been delivered. They’ll probably get started with that on Monday.
Drywall Finished / Shakes and Trim Installed - 10-20-06
The drywall crew finished up this week. The “shakes” were installed this week as well. In case you don’t know what “shakes” are (like me), you’ll find them on the front of the house up in the top triangle shape. There are some on the back of the house too, but the guys used the wrong color j-channel… you’ll see what I mean. Anyway, they’re going to come back out and replace it soon.
Hardwood Floor and Tile Installed - 10-27-06
Hardwood flooring was installed in most of the level (kitchen, breakfast area, dining room, great room, and foyer). Tile was installed in all the bathrooms as well the laundry room. We had the tile guy installed the master bathroom tile at an angle and I think it turned out really nice. The front door that we picked out was installed this week too. Everything is starting to really shape up on the inside of the house!
Trim and Trenches - 11-4-06
Trim work began this past week. Looking around the house, I can tell a lot of work has been going on with the trim, but there’s still quite a bit to go. Most of the interior doors have been hung, windows are trimmed out, and about half of the base boards are in. Trim work will probably go well into next week. We noticed that another trench was dug on the side of the house. I think its for the electricity hook up.
